How do I become a CIT or Junior Crew member?
Counselor in Training  & Junior Crew

In our 35 years of operation we have had the pleasure of seeing many of our participants become full-fledged crew. We receive many requests to become a C.I.T. (counselor in training). While we really want to say "Yes" to all requests, we just can't because of space limitations onboard the Island Time.

Are you taking applications for CIT's

Yes, we are now accepting applications for CIT's for the 2022 season.

How old do you have to be to become a CIT

We require our CIT's to be at least 14 years old and to have participated in Coastal Discoveries for at least 3 years.

Do I have to have good grades in school?

YES!  You need to do well in school and show leadership abilities.

Will I need a recomendation?

YES!  You will need at least one teacher recommendation, describing your behavior and your level of maturity and awareness.

How do I get started?

Submit a resume or a letter of interest to us over the winter along with at least one teacher recommendation .

CIT Internship Positions

We are excited to announce a few openings for the 2024 Summer season! We are taking applications for our CIT internship program. Counselor In Training positions allow our experienced campers to gain insight to the responsibilities of a counselor, wile having the same wonderful experience as a camper without any expense to you. We are asking for a 1 week commitments for 1st year CIT's and a 2 week commitment this year from our returning 2nd year CIT candidates.

We are accepting requests for CIT's for 2024, and here is what you need to know:

We require our CIT's to be at least 14 years old and to have participated in Coastal Discoveries for at least 3 years. We do look at many things in choosing CIT's: You need to do well in school, show leadership abilities, have respect and learn how to work well with other crew members and Captain Bob. Working on a boat requires many different skills from deckhand to handling bait and fish and sharing knowledge with the kids on board. Your level of maturity and awareness of what is going on around you needs to be high as well.

The safety of our crew and the kids that participate in our program comes first with us and needs to be first with anyone who works with us.

We also require at least one teacher reference.

 

Junior Counselor Positions - 

Upon successful completion of 2 years in our CIT program, applicants can apply to become a Junior Counselor. Your first year of employment here at Coastal Discoveries will be a great learning experience! You will build upon skills learned as a CIT and have greater responsibilities both aboard the Island Time and during land based activities as well.

We are looking for

 

  •  Applicants that possess a genuine interest in the marine and education fields, in working with younger campers, and be willing to commit the required energy, enthusiasm, and cooperation in all aspects of the training and hands-on portions of the program.
  • A positive and cooperative attitude and pleasant disposition are critical personal attributes for all Junior Counselors.
