The ocean and the life it holds has always been a part of the Yeomans family since before Bob was born. Both his father and grandfather before him ventured into its depths to play, to fish and to make a few dollars here and there while dabbling in the art of fishing for tuna, stripers and lobsters. Bob was officially born with “salt water in his veins” and after four years in the U.S. Coast Guard, he settled down to make a living on the sea in the spring and summer and delivering oil in the fall and winter while dreaming of the warmer seasons to come.
Several boats, two children and many years later, it became evident that the struggle to make a living on the sea was getting harder and harder. His wife, Lee, and children, Rob and Erica, shared his love of the sea. While observing how much the kids and their friends enjoyed many exciting adventures at sea, Lee thought maybe a marine camp for kids would be just the thing to do. The rest of the family jumped at the idea and Coastal Discoveries was born.
Since its inception in 1988, more than 5,000 kids have crossed our decks, and we believe that each year we accomplish our initial mission--to share our love of our ocean environment and to teach respect for its fragility.
